Past and present

Hello, my friends.

Benamejí has changed in these years.
Today, I am going to talk about the main changes.

In the past, "La Grieta" was a dangerous place, because when was raining or the weather was bad, there were earth movements and "La Grieta" ate the houses of the village. We lost a big piece of land and many population were homeless.  By Internet we can check the information about this incident in the year 1989. Fortunately, the situation changed and in the year 1999 the village inaugurated the new balcony and all the problems were solved.

On the other hand, another incredible change of the village has been the gradual change that has suffered the main square "Plaza de La Constitución".
First of all, in the square, there was a marvelous palace, that was demolished. It was very sad, because this building was a symbol. Instead of this site, the mayor decided to build a town hall.
Population was contrary to this idea, but they couldn´t do anything.

However, this square was not the definitive, and nowadays we have a totally and different square.
The fountain of lions was changed by a big fount more modern.
The white banks was replaced by a dark iron banks.
Moreover, the square that in the past was divided in two pieces, at the present time is only one piece.

Finally, the only thing that never changes is the devotion for "Virgen de Gracia",
We have a important event in September, and every year we celebrated "La Romería", where a lot of people drink, eat and dancing during the day.

In the past "Virgen de Gracia" had a silver crown and at the moment the crown is golden.

But today we are going to focus in the olive oil, a typical product of Benamejí.

First, the olive is recollected by the workers. The recollection´s time is between December and March.
Then, these olives are carried until the factory, where the olives are milled in a big machine.
Later, the olive oil is introduced in a long container and when the oil passes a short time there, the olive oil is introduced in bottles of different capacities. Finally, this oil is sent to the market.
There are a lot of different olive oils. The first oil has a strong flavor. This oil is used for toasts.  The second oil has a sweeter flavor than the first. This oil is used for cooking.

I like the olive oil because it is an important food in Mediterranean diet and it is a typical product for my village.

How is Benamejí?

Hello my dear friends! How are you? I hope you are fine.
Today I am going to talk about Benamejí, the town where I live.

Benamejí (Córdoba) is a fantastic place, where are living 5,000 habitants. Here people are very friendly, nice and kind, and if you are in trouble, they are always going to help you for sure. Benamejí is a small town, quiet and cosy. It has beautiful squares and parks with a lot of trees. The surroundings are very rural, where you can find many olives and pines tree.

Certainly, the most important monument is the main church called "Inmaculada Concepción". This building has a curious tower, that you can see since far away. It is similar to an ice cream cone, because its colour is brown like a cookie.
My favourite place in my town is "La Grieta", a balcony where you can watch a spectacular landscape. You can see the river, mountains and other villages. I love it.

In Benamejí,  people practise different sports like trekking, dancing and activities in the river such as puenting and rafting, because there is a very famous bridge where the Genil river passes.

Music is very important in Benamejí. There are various associations dedicated to "folckore". In fact, every year they organize a internacional party where participate countries of all the world.

This is my village. Do you want to visit? Of course! :)
